Bangladesh Diesel Plant Limited (BDPL) is a state-owned engineering and manufacturing enterprise in Bangladesh, operating under the management of the Bangladesh Army. Established on 25 June 1980, BDPL is headquartered in Gazipur Cantonment, Shimultoly, Dhaka. The organization is governed by a Board of Directors chaired by the Chief of Army Staff, with Brigadier General Md Reazur Rahman serving as the current Managing Director.

Core Activities and Products

BDPL specializes in the manufacturing and assembly of various industrial and defense-related products, including:

Diesel engines and spare parts
Filters (air, fuel, oil)
Die-mold and tooling equipment
Concertina and barbed wire
MS pipes for irrigation and dredging
Plastic products (e.g., mugs, flower pots) under the “TROOPS” brand
Fiber helmets

The company is also engaged in renewable energy solutions to cater to both rural and urban needs.

Major Projects and Contributions

BDPL has been instrumental in executing several significant projects, such as:

Constructing a 50 MW diesel power plant at Pagla Army Camp in Narayanganj, inaugurated in 2011.
Participating in land development for the Rampal Power Plant.
Producing prepaid electricity meters for the Dhaka Power Distribution Company.
Building embankments and infrastructure in collaboration with the Bangladesh Army

Historical Background

Initially part of the Bangladesh Steel and Engineering Corporation (BSEC), BDPL faced financial challenges leading to its closure in 2004. In 2007, the Bangladesh Army took over its management, revitalizing the company and restoring its profitability.
