The National Institute of Laboratory Medicine and Referral Centre (NILMRC) is a state-run academic and diagnostic institution located in Agargaon, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Established to enhance the quality of laboratory services nationwide, NILMRC serves as a national reference laboratory and plays a pivotal role in medical research and education.

Overview

• Established: Approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) in June 2010, with construction completed in 2017. The institute was inaugurated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on October 31, 2018, and commenced operations on December 2, 2019.​

• Location: F/17-A, Sher-E-Bangla Nagar, Agargaon, Dhaka-1207, Bangladesh.​

• Leadership: As of August 1, 2022, the institute is led by Professor Dr. Mohammed Shahed Ali Jinnah.​

Objectives

NILMRC aims to:

• Provide training facilities for laboratory personnel at all levels.​

• Establish a nationwide network to ensure quality laboratory services.​

• Offer pathological services and function as a referral laboratory.​

• Introduce accreditation in laboratory medicine.​

• Conduct postgraduate and undergraduate courses in various laboratory medicine disciplines.​

• Engage in research activities.​

• Generate income through service provision.​

Facilities and Services

NILMRC is equipped with modern laboratory facilities and offers a wide range of diagnostic services, including:

• Pathology​

• Clinical Pathology​

• Microbiology​

• Biochemistry​

• Virology​

• Hematology​

• Radiology​

During the COVID-19 pandemic, NILMRC played a crucial role as a testing center, conducting a significant number of tests and contributing to the national effort to combat the virus.​
