Bangladesh Copyright Office national level quasi-judicial organization responsible for copyright management in Bangladesh and is located in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

After the independence of Bangladesh in 1971 the regional copyright office was made the national copyright office. It is a department under the ministry of culture. It has been criticized for failing to coordinate with the Department of Patents, Designs and Trademarks, both of which are responsible for the protection of intellectual property in Bangladesh. To register the ownership of intellectual property Bangladesh Copyright office was established in 1967. Bangladesh Copyright office is a quasi-judiciary organization. The activities of this office are guided by the Copyright Act, 2000(amended in 2005) and Copyright Rules, 2006. This office mainly functions four types of activities: (1) Registration of creative intellectual property (2) To assist the Copyright Board in disposing appeal cases (3) To conduct taskforce operation in order to prevent piracy and (4) To function as focal point of World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Bangladesh.

Copyright office registers literary works, drama, music, arts, cinematography, radio, television & digital platform broadcast, webpage, software and transferred document of IP etc. The commercial right of intellectual property is transferable.

If copyright registration is done the preservation of moral and financial right, particularly identification of ownership of the created works becomes easier. Although copyright registration is not mandatory but if disputes arise with the ownership of created works, ‘copyright registration certificate’ can be very handy as a proof in any event and even in the higher courts.
