Dockyard and Engineering Works Limited (DEW) is a state-owned shipbuilding and engineering company in Bangladesh, operating under the Ministry of Defence and managed by the Bangladesh Navy. Established in 1926 as Narayanganj Dockyard Limited, it holds the distinction of being the first dockyard in the Indian subcontinent. After periods of both prosperity and decline, the yard was revitalized under Navy management in 2006, leading to significant growth and modernization.

DEW specializes in:

Shipbuilding: Constructing various vessels, including patrol crafts, landing craft tanks, speed boats, Ro-Ro ferries, tugboats, cargo vessels, oil tankers, dredgers, and pontoons.
Repair & Maintenance: Offering comprehensive services for ships and marine equipment.
Re-Engineering: Upgrading and modifying existing vessels to meet new requirements.
Civil Engineering Solutions: Engaging in national projects like river excavation, dredging, embankment construction, and land development.

Facilities & Capabilities

The DEW facility spans 21.78 acres along the Shitalakshya River in Narayanganj, featuring:

Docking capacity for vessels up to 1,500 tons and 88.4 meters in length.
Annual steelwork production capacity of 2,070 tons.
Dedicated composite boat-building workshop established in 2018, capable of producing boats ranging from 8 to 18 meters using advanced vacuum infusion techniques.
Machine shop equipped with 44 machines, including lathes, milling machines, and hydraulic presses.
