The Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division (LPAD) is a crucial division within the Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs of the Government of Bangladesh. Established in December 2009, following the bifurcation of the Ministry, LPAD is primarily responsible for drafting and vetting legislation before they are presented to the Parliament, ensuring that all proposed laws are legally sound and align with the nation’s treaty obligations.

Key Functions of LPAD:

Legislative Drafting and Vetting: LPAD assists in creating new laws and reforming existing ones, ensuring they meet legal standards and international commitments.
Legal Advisory Services: The division provides legal opinions and advice to other ministries and divisions of the government, facilitating informed decision-making across various sectors.
Management of Legal Institutions: LPAD oversees significant legal bodies, including the Bangladesh Law Commission and the Bangladesh National Human Rights Commission, ensuring their effective operation in promoting justice and human rights.

Organizational Structure:

LPAD operates under the leadership of a Secretary, who reports to the Minister of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs. The division works collaboratively with other governmental bodies to streamline legislative processes and uphold the rule of law in Bangladesh.
