The National Institute of Mental Health and Hospital (NIMH) is Bangladesh’s premier government facility dedicated to mental health care, research, and training. Established in 1981 and located in Sher-E-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka, it serves as the country’s largest teaching psychiatric hospital .
Services Offered

Inpatient Services: The hospital has 400 beds, with 70% allocated for non-paying patients and 30% for paying patients. Admissions are accepted from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM on working days .

Outpatient and Emergency Care: Comprehensive services are available for both children and adults, addressing a wide range of mental health conditions.

Special Clinics: The hospital offers specialized clinics focusing on areas such as addiction psychiatry, forensic psychiatry, and geriatric psychiatry.
Training & Research
NIMH plays a pivotal role in training mental health professionals, including psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, psychiatric nurses, and social workers. It also conducts research in behavioral sciences and maintains a Psychiatric Central Electronic Register to enhance patient care.
