The Sheikh Russel National Gastroliver Institute & Hospital, located in Mohakhali, Dhaka, is Bangladesh’s premier government facility dedicated to the diagnosis, treatment, and research of gastrointestinal and liver diseases. Established on October 31, 2018, it serves as a national referral center for both adults and children .

Departments & Services

1. Medical Gastroenterology

This department offers comprehensive services, including emergency and outpatient care, as well as advanced diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures such as colonoscopy, EGD, ERCP, and endoscopic ultrasound. It also provides telemedicine consultations nationwide .

2. Surgical Gastroenterology

Established in 2020, this department specializes in complex abdominal surgeries, both open and laparoscopic. It features a 4-theater OT complex, a 10-bed postoperative ward, and a dedicated outpatient clinic .

3. Pediatric Gastroenterology

The hospital provides specialized care for children with gastrointestinal and liver conditions, ensuring age-appropriate diagnostics and treatments.

4. Advanced Diagnostics & Imaging

The facility is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including Bangladesh’s first 3 Tesla MRI with PACS and CT scanners, a GI physiology lab, and a radiology department .

5. Intensive Care & Emergency Services

A 16-bed ICU and a fully operational emergency department are available 24/7 to handle critical cases related to gastrointestinal and liver emergencies .
